Fortnite
PLAYBOY - While Sony and Microsoft go out of their way to announce the latest cutting-edge game with amazing graphics, everyone’s eyes are trained on Nintendo and see what they can do with their hybrid console, the Switch. June marks the time when gamers all over the world drop everything and tune in to E3, where the world’s top names in gaming announce and roll out their plans for the coming year and beyond. Nintendo’s never one to follow industry trends, instead choosing to go their own way and provide a fun experience first before a tech showcase.

Here’s what Nintendo has brought to the fight this E3 2018.

Fortnite is Here!

And who can blame them? It’s free, fun, constantly updated, and has a vibrant community from PC to Xbox to PS4 and iOS devices. Now it’s on the Nintendo Switch. Fortnite is literally the biggest game in the world at the moment, with everyone from that kid on an iPad to rapper Drake playing with it.

Now if you’re on the go and you want to jump from the Battle Bus into the heat of the battle, you can just easily whip out your Nintendo Switch and enjoy the full-fat Battle Royale mode.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is Coming This Year

Sure, they had to wait a torturous year, but Dragon Ball FighterZ is finally coming so they can spam those Hadoukens at home and on the go! Gameplay footage is showing that it’s easily running a smooth 60 FPS on both docked and portable, with a locked maximum native resolution for both modes. Nintendo fans felt left out when Bandai Namco released this amazing fighting game on everything but the Switch.

There’s no final release date yet, but the developers promised that it will be out this year.

The Original Donkey Kong is Out, and it’s a Big Deal.

The original Donkey Kong marked the debut of two of gaming’s most enduring characters, Donkey Kong and Mario. This arcade classic has a vibrant community behind it, trying to best the game to push the highest score even further. However, obtaining a working copy of the full original arcade game wasn’t possible without resorting to piracy. Nintendo hasn’t re-released the original due to complex legal issues regarding ownership of the code.

It seems that Nintendo managed to work some miracles because the complete original arcade Donkey Kong is out on the Switch eShop now. Go get yourself educated on gaming history by downloading this classic.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses is Coming Next Year

Fire Emblem is one of Nintendo’s underrated gems. This turn-based strategy game has a small but vocal following, constantly asking Nintendo for a new Fire Emblem game. Fire Emblem: Three Houses has been announced, and it is beautiful. The game looks epic in scope and we can’t wait to get our hands on it when it comes out in spring 2019.

Everyone’s Back for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Nobody thought it could be done, but here it is. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is coming on the Nintendo Switch this December, and it’ll feature every single character in the game. We have Mario, Yoshi, Solid Snake, Sonic, Samus, Pikachu, Link, Zelda, Bowser, Ryu, and more. The roster is currently at 65 characters, with rebalanced and modified mechanics for everyone.

Nintendo apparently listens to memes as well, because Ridley, the gigantic villain from the Metroid series is also coming, and he is overpowered. The Inklings from Splatoon also make their Smash debut here, and they seem to be a fun bunch of characters to get started on. Apparently, the roster will even be expanded even more in the future.

The work behind reworking this game must have been daunting, and we applaud Masahiro Sakurai and his team for pulling it off.

Nintendo’s 2018-2019 slate looks amazing, and we cannot wait to play all of these games. What are your favorite Nintendo announcements for E3 this year? What games are you looking forward to getting? (Playboy Philippines)
